WE WAKE up at my cousin Fred’s in Glasgow and I’m a bit confused as to where I am….
Once I’ve come to, we have a wonderful breakfast, coffee and chat round the table in the garden and, of course, chat for a few hours before heading for Kirriemuir.
First stop is Susie’s flat where we drop off our bags and have a snack before making our way to the Bonfest site. We’re met by organiser Graham, and once Hayseed Dixie are through with their soundcheck I get my stiff on stage.
We know front-of-house engineer Mitch and Louise soundchecks go great and then we go to our portacabin dressing room which is equipped with plenty beer, juice, water and a nice bottle of single malt. Better take it easy before the show!
Gates open at 6pm and the first band hits the stage soon after. The huge tent starts to fill up and by the time I take the stage there’s a great crowd in.
Despite a broken string on my last song, all goes great and as soon as my gear’s off stage I’m whisked off to the merch tent to sign stuff and chat with folks.
We catch up with a few folks we know and some radio folks then go backstage to do an interview for Donegal TV who are doing a feature on the festival.
I manage to catch the end of Hayseed Dixie’s set and we catch up with pals who are at the festival….then AC/DC UK close the event.
We head back to Susie’s where she’s prepared dinner and we eat, drink and chat ’til the wee hours. Great day out!
