NEEDLESS to say I have a wee bit of a bad head this morning. Worth it tho’!
I’m not too happy with some of my merch prototypes so its back to the drawing board.
A month or two ago I had my sights set on Apple’s new M1-equipped Mac Mini’s for the studio which would mean my laptop didn’t need to be carted about from house to office to studio…apart form being a bit of a pain, the USB sockets on the MacBook Pro are starting to become a little loose and temperamental.
The first rationalisation was to move a mostly redundant old Macbook from the studio to the office where I found it works well with the Flux laser cutter. Office sorted!
Now there’s nothing really wrong with my current MacBook Pro and I realised that if it was semi-permanently plugged into everything in the studio that would be a (much!) cheaper solution. So what do I use in the house? My 2018 iPad is still pretty slick….but I can’t get a compatible keyboard case with a trackpad – it’s just one generation too old to work with Apple’s fantastic magic keyboard.
And then Apple released the new iPad Pro with an M1 chip. Jeez. Looks amazing! But a new iPad Pro and magic keyboard (assuming I’d be happy to stick with the first generation Apple Pencil) is gonna eat up the best part of a grand that I don;t have. Still, I was keen to find a way….
I say ‘was’ because I had a brainwave in the shower…not being convinced of the flexibility of the magic keyboard…when the iPad’s removed there’s no protection, and after the glass of red wine on the ferry incident with my then new MacbookPro I’m a little OCD about potential accidents/damage. That repair bill was one of a series of things that contributed to our financial cris in 2019!
My brainwave. Why not try an old Apple Bluetooth keyboard from the office cupboard with my existing iPad? I do just that and it works a dream!
OK, what about a mouse or trackpad? The trackpad on the old MacBook Pro, now resident in the office doesn’t work so an old Apple Bluetooth mouth has been deployed there. I borrow it for a mo’, pair it with the iPad and bingo! A transformational experience, except That the scroll doesn’t work. Not a showstopper, but I nip to the studio and grab the newer Logitech mouse and try that. Perfect!
I’m straight onto Amazon and bag myself another Logitech mouse for under £40. Comes tomorrow (Saturday). If it all works as planned I’ve saved the credit card a £1000 hit and probably my sanity when I think about the level of debt!
Anyway, back on the mercy – I’m quite happy with the improved version of my leather bracelets – now available in the merch store in brown and grey in a variety of sizes 🙂
Margaret’s made an amazing salmon linguine for lunch…the best salmon pasta I’ve ever had, let alone made at home. The recipe – from Waitrose – is a keeper!
I do some work on a website in the studio then hit the back garden and put the top on the new bar I’m building to go under the smokepit shelter.
Finally I get the grill lit and cook up some beef and mushroom burgers – and other new favourite – which i top with brie and serve in brioche buns 🙂
