We go over Craigie Fort and enjoy a wander up the lochside

AFTER blethering over breakfast it’s suddenly midday and we go out for a walk – Ruben, Joey, Gina and myself head up the lochside and Margaret drops in to see Betty and Joe.

When we get back Margaret already done some prep and got the charcoal lit for the smoker. The Swampcandy folks start packing their van for their Inverness show tonight (Saturday) and I get the ribs and chicken on for our pals coming for dinner tonight.

We’re both pretty knackered, but no time to waste…Martyn, Louise, Fiona and Steven are coming at 7.30pm…and I still have to ,make some cornbread to go with the the BBQ.

All goes to plan and we have a magnificent night,…it;s well after 3.30am when we go to bed.

NOT too long a journey today, so we have a lazy morning then make our way towards York.

There’s a Morrisons near our hotel so we stop for some lunch – supermarket cafe scampi and chips…kinda like an OAP lunch – and pick up some supplies.

We check into the hotel just after 2pm and I crash for a good couple of hours. Once I’ve come back to life I get some work done and catch up on a month-long tour/tech blog I’m putting together for ProSoundNews Europe.

The hotel’s about 1/2-hour drive from tonight’s venue. We’re there and loading in soon after 6pm – opening act Vinnie is a regular at the venue and gets the PA sorted which is augmented by some cool stuff Swampcandy have with them.

The gig was moved from Fibbers to The Woolpack at the last minute – too long a story for here – but everythingΒ Β goes to plan and we all have a good time. Nice to catch up with our pal Clatch and not one, but two Scottish radio DJs – Hugh and Paul – who both just happened to be in York πŸ™‚

We say goodbye to Swampcandy – hope to catch up with them again soon, pick up some grub and head back to the hotel for a wee glass of red.

Great opening set from Swampcandy at The Cluny

Great opening set from Swampcandy at The Cluny

AN EARLY – but not too early – rise…we need to be on the road by 9.30am.

We have breakfast, pack the car and say cheerio to Chris and Richard. They’ve been fantastic hosts of our two nights in London.

Load in at The Cluny in Newcastle is 4pm. We head up the A1(M) and stop off at an OK Diner for lunch then carry on our journey, We’d hoped to get the Newcastle in time to check in to our hotel en route to the venue, but we’re tight for time.

Engineer Dave is ready and waiting and I’m loaded in, set up and sound checked in no time, leaving plenty time to go and check in to our hotel before going back to the venue where we’re well fed and enjoy a few beers before doors open.

Swampcandy have arrived and loaded in while we were eating…great to meet the guys and Gina at last. We blether for a while, then doors open and Swampcandy hit the stage and play a great set.

Then it’s my turn and I sweat like a pig, down a few drams and bash out some tunes for the next hour or so. There’s a great crowd in and it’s nice to see so many familiar faces.

We chat with folks at the merch desk, clear up, have a couple of drinks and more chat then load out and find our way back to the hotel.

A couple of glasses of red then…..zzzzzzzzz…..York tomorrow (Thursday) πŸ™‚
