I’M just out the shower when a courier pulls up – it’s the Ooni pizza oven. Surprised at how quickly this has arrived as it was ordered late on Wednesday night!
I’ve had my eye on one for a while but no cash. However, the proceeds from a guitar sale came through the other day and although earmarked for repairs and some other essential household stuff, we thought we should get one ‘special treat’. Guess it’s pizza tonight…
There’s some new coasters to go in the shop and I have a song to work on in the studio.
Once I’m clear of tasks and up to date we unpack the Ooni and check it’s all working and we have enough gas.
All’s good – but if I’m making pizza tonight I need some 00 flour. I take a drive to Balloch but the Co-op doesn’t have any…I’ll make do with the strong bread flour I have at home.
When I get back Margaret’s out canvassing for the local community trust. I ‘season’ the Ooni by running at full pelt for half an hour and while it’s going make up a batch of pizza dough – enough for tonight and, if it works, tomorrow when Matty’s here. He likes pizza 😉
I open the fridge and realise the risotto I kept for Betty and Joe is still there. Doh! I run along with it and apologise. Alas, too late for tonight’s dinner, but it’ll still be good tomorrow.
Back home I prep some pasata, mushrooms, mozzarella and rocket for the pizza then do some work on the West highland Way Gifts website while I wait for Margaret to come back. She called earlier to say she’d only got as far as Barbara’s and was ‘distracted by a few large glasses of wine. The rest of the ‘visit’ will have to wait.
She also has something to take to Betty so goes there on her way back…and has another glass or two.
When Margaret gets back we test the Ooni and we’re amazed at how well it goes – the pizzas are amazing. Still room for improvement as I develop my dough making and stretching skills, but we’re off to a great start 🙂
